Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Attack as Law Enforcement Persist in Search for Perpetrator.

Two students who lost their lives in the recent mass shooting at Brown University were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer persisted following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences on social media, stating: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

His name was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male arrested in a raid at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our public”.

The gunman began shooting inside a lecture hall in the engineering building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a authority reported to the media outlet.

Officers that entered the lodging seized two firearms and magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, one student was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at the university she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, friends, and fellow students and lament the passing of his promising future.”

Broader Statistics

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
