The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
