The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
