The ice cream brand's Founding Partner States Parent Company Blocked Palestine-Themed Frozen Dessert Flavor
The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that parent company Unilever stopped the launch for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.
Ben Cohen, who established the business with Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he will personally create this new flavor within a personal collection showcasing causes the company was barred from addressing publicly.
Ongoing Dispute Involving Creators versus Parent Company
The recent development escalates the ongoing conflict among the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.
The co-founders have claimed that the parent company along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company against "honouring its social mission".
Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol for Support
The entrepreneur announced through social media that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options plus potential ingredients.
“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder commented from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”
This particular fruit has emerged as a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians because of its coloration, that mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.
Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments
In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales in disputed territories.
This upcoming dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand that originally created in 2016 to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".
Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Plans
Mr. Cohen revealed that he will create other ice cream flavors that address concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.
This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades with the organization, citing worries that its independence was undermined following Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.
Previously, Ben Cohen commented that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."
“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence so that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to media outlets.
