Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with performances so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
