Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

Atkinson pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.

Team management reported the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

England have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three England players to get into double digits.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he returned on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed at his leg.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
